Lot 2018 MONTE KENNEDY STOCKED BUHMILLER-SHARON DANGEROUS
GAME RIFLE. Cal. .450 Mag. S# 1647U2. The 24" round barrel with caliber marked at left rear, is fitted with Ruger base for one standing leaf rear sight. A custom muzzle break forms ramp for white bead front sight. Top of barrel is marked "BUHMILLER-SHARON-KENNEDY KALISPELL MONT." (Hall Sharon bought John Buhmiller's barrel making business in 1970 and this rifle probably dates from that era.) BRNO model 98 VZ24 Mauser action with CZ markings on receiver ring has had bolt handle lowered in M70 style; knob is hollowed and checkered in four panels. Bolt body is engine turned. Flag safety is retained and a commercial trigger is installed. Bottom metal has been altered with hinged floorplate with release in trigger guard bow. Pistol grip stock was made by the legendary Monte Kennedy using a piece of very nicely marbled European, probably French, walnut; it measures 13-3/4" over brown "Old English" pad and shows classic styling and Kennedy's flawless and borderless point pattern checkering at grip and around forend. CONDITION: very fine as custom finished. Metal retaining essentially all blue. Stock is also very fine with only a very few handling marks in its fine smooth oil finish. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6432/MGM). MODERN. $4,000-6,000.
